The Northern Lakes Lightning girls mustered only 8 shots on goal Friday as they were shutout by North Shore 3-0. Sarah Maroney had 37 saves on net for the Lightning.

The Lightning JV got the first goal of the game and the last goal of the game but in between North Shore scored five times and won the contest 5-2. Karlene Haff opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal at 11:14 of the first. Rayna Hopia scored the final goal of the game at 14:59 of the third but it wasn't enough, and North Shore had the victory. Kayla Landt was in net for the Lightning and stopped 32 shots while the Lightning had 30 shots on goal.

The Duluth Denfeld Hunters outscored the visiting Northern Lakes Lightning Thursday 5-2 helped along by a pair of goals in the final period to break open a close game. Jerome Martin opened the scoring in the first, his 5th goal of the season to give the Lightning a 1-0 lead. Drew Paulbeck picked up the assist. Denfeld scored two straight goals to go up 2-1 into the second period. Drew Doyle scored to give the Hunters a 3-1 lead before Martin scored his second of the night and 6th of the season from Leyton Cable to close it to 3-2. That led to the two Denfeld goals in the third while the Lightning were held scoreless. Each team had 28 shots on goal. Sam Suja was in goal for the Lightning, stopping 23 shots. Northern Lakes didn't have a penalty in the game while the Hunters had just one for two minutes.

The Lightning JV scored a 3-1 victory over the Hunters. Griffen Hannah opened the scoring for the Lightning unassisted at 5:58 of the first. Denfeld tied the score after one but the Lightning scored twice in the third to win it. Huck Balmer scored at 9:38 from Garrett Furry and Jaden Marthaler and then at 4:26 Sutton Sullivan scored unassisted for the final goal of the night. Damon John was in net for the Lightning and he stopped 22 shots while Northern Lakes had 41 shots on goal.

The Northern Lakes Lightning and the Hibbing Bluejackets met in Walker Tuesday night and the 'Jackets recorded a 4-0 shutout. They scored once in the second and three times in the third to pick up the win. Kayla Landt had 24 stops while the Lightning had just 13 shots on goal.

The Lightning JV and Hibbing played to an overtime 3-3 tie. The 'Jackets took a 3-0 before the Lightning got on the scoreboard on a goal by Eva Anderson at 9:51 of the second. Taryn Tjaden scored at 3:01 of the third then Karlene Haff tied the game at 13:32 from Tjaden and Brooklyn Raisch. Hibbing had the only two shots on goal in the extra session, but Sarah Maroney kept them from scoring. Maroney had 22 saves while the Lightning posted 32 shots on goal.

The Northern Lakes Lightning and the Thief River Falls Prowlers played a wild game at the Huck Olson Memorial Center Friday night, but the home team prevailed in overtime 6-5. The Lightning took a 3-1 lead after the first period. Jacob Peterson scored his 7th of the season from Finn Fogarty and Anthony Noyes at 14:49. Three minutes later it was Easton Anderson with his 5th from Grant Vershey and a 2-0 lead. After a Prowler tally Drew Paulbeck banged in his 8th of the year from Wyatt Balmer and Jerome Martin. The Prowlers had the only goal of the second, so it was 3-2 Lightning to the final period. TRF scored three straight goals for a 4-3 lead, but the Lightning wasn't finished. Parker Fulton scored at 3:39 from Paulbeck and Leyton Cable, then at 3:27 Fulton scored again, his 4th of the season from Martin and Bodie Nybakken to give the Lightning a 5-4 lead. That lasted until 1:20 remained when the Prowlers tied things up at 5-5. They ended the game at 4:34 of overtime to capture a hard-earned victory. Hunter Moreland started in goal for the Lightning and had 8 stops before being injured. Damon John came on and had 14 saves.

The Lightning JV scored a 3-0 win over the Prowlers. Damon John had 21 saves to pick up the win in the net. The Lightning got things going with a pair of goals in the first. Waylon Katterhagen scored at 15:46 from Garrett Furry and Josiah Reier scored at 7:09 from Huck Balmer and Parker Fulton for a 2-0 lead. Colton Vry scored at 3:00 of the second from Vinny Przybylski and Colton Kaufenberg to complete the scoring.

It was a rough night at home for the Northern Lakes Lightning girl's hockey team as both teams lost to the visiting Duluth Northern Stars. In the varsity matchup the Stars scored in each period and kept the light off at the other end of the rink to pick up a 4-0 victory. Sarah Maroney was in goal and had 34 saves while the Lightning posted 17 shots on goal.

The JV got a goal from Eva Anderson in the opening period from Kambria Thompson but that was it as the Stars won the matchup 3-1. Kayla Landt was in net and had 10 saves while the Lightning had 13 shots on goal.

The Pine City Dragons put a damper on the Northen Lakes Lightning girls matchup Dec.12 as they ran away with an 8-2 victory. The Lightning took a quick 1-0 lead in the first but the Dragons got 8 of the next 9 goals to get the victory. Natalie Stueven gave Northern Lakes a 1-0 lead at 16:22 of the first assisted by Jenna Stoerzinger and Corah Meschke. It was her 3rd goal of the season. The Lightning would not score again until 5:12 of the second when Kambria Thompson scored her 8th goal of the season, unassisted. The Dragons led 5-1 by then and scored three more times in the final period. Kayla Landt was in net and recorded 27 saves while the Lightning had 27 shots on goal.

Sarah Maroney was in net and stopped all 25 shots but the JV Lightning were unable to dent the net either in a rare 0-0 tie. They put 19 shots on goal as both goalies did their job.

The Northern Lakes Lightning ripped the net for 17 goals tonight in a 17-1 victory over Prairie Centre. They scored early and often netting 8 goals in the first period alone. Jasmyn German got the scoring going followed by goals by Corah Meschke, (4), Mya Rueper,(1), Natalie Stueven, (2,3), Ava Merta, (3), and Kambria Thompson,(5, 6). They slowed down a little in the second but still got goals from Jenna Stoerzinger, (3), Shaylee Swenson, (1), Merta, (4), and German, (2). The third period was a goal-fest with Eva Anderson picking up her first goal, Meschke scoring her 5th, Merta getting her 5th, Rayna Hopia scoring and Thompson picking up her 7th of the year. Sarah Mahoney was the recipient in goal of her teams offensive outburst.

The Lightning JV was almost as lethal as they scored a 13-0 win over Prairie Centre. Mya Rueper, Taryn Tjaden, Kambria Thompson, Brielle Jones, Leah Doughty and Jones again built a 6-0 lead. Goals in the second from Cassondra Smythe, Avery Lonergan and Shaylee Swenson made it 9-0. Jones scored three times in the third and Eva Anderson added a goal to end the scoring. Kayla Landt picked up the win in net for the Lightning.

The Northern Lakes Lightning moved their record to 4-1 on the season with a 2-0 win on the road at Crookston Saturday. Sam Suja picked up the shutout, stopping all 19 shots to get the win in the net. Parker Fulton opened the scoring with his 2nd goal of the season at 4:03 of the first period. Finn Fogarty had the only assist. Easton Anderson made it 2-0 at 12:53 of the second with his 4th goal of the season, assisted by Wyatt Balmer. That took care of the scoring for the game. The Lightning had 35 shots on goal.

Griffen Hannah had a hat trick to lead the Lightning JV to an 8-0 shutout over Crookston. The Lightning scored in all three periods to control the contest. Jack Carr started the scoring with a first period goal and Hannah followed with two goals before the period was over. Huck Balmer and Parker Fulton assisted on Carr's goal, Waylon Katterhagen assisted on Hannah's first goal and his second was unassisted. The Lightning scored twice in the second. Colton Vry scored from Vinny Przybylski and Kyler Rikala and Carr scored from Vry for a 5-0 lead after two periods. Vry scored again to open the third from Colton Kaufenberg and Rikala and Hannah completed the hat trick from Grady Tjaden to conclude the scoring. Hunter Moreland got the shutout, stopping all 4 shots on goal he faced.

The Northern Lakes Lightning girls suffered an 8-1 home loss Friday to the River Lakes Stars. River Lakes moved out to a 5-1 lead in the second when Rayna Hopia scored her first goal of the season assisted by Corah Meschke and Myah Rueper. The Stars added three goals in the third to pick up the victory. Sarah Mahoney was goal for the Lightning and stopped 46 shots while the Lightning managed 22 shots on goal.

The Lightning JV lost a tough 4-2 matchup against the Stars. The Lightning scored first on a goal by Karlene Haff assisted by Brooklyn Raisch and Kambria Thompson. River Lakes then scored twice to make it 2-1 in the second period. Ava Merta tied it at 2-2 with a goal from Brielle Jones but the Stars scored the next two goals to win it. Kayla Landt had 29 stops for the Lightning who mustered just 15 shots on goal.

The Northern Lakes Lightning picked up a huge win Thursday as they shutout the visiting Alexandria Cardinals 5-0 at Breezy Point. The Lightning took a 1-0 lead after one on Easton Andersons 3rd goal of the season with Leyton Cable getting the assist. They broke it open with four goals in the second. Drew Paulbeck scored his 7th of the season at 16:01, an unassisted goal and then Jerome Martin made it 3-0 with his 3rd goal at 8:49 from Jacob Peterson. Preston Verness scored his 2nd of the season at 14:29 from Anthony Noyes and Wyatt Balmer and Martin scored his 4th, another unassisted goal, at 12:59 to complete the scoring. The third period was scoreless. Paulbeck talked about the win, "Yeah it was a great win and a nice win for our goalie Sam Suja. We played a super sound defensive game and everyone played their roll super well. Everyone did their job and it was a great team win." Sam Suja stopped 22 shots while his teammates put 30 shots on goal. Coach Mike Randolph was short and sweet after the win, "It was a great team effort, I didn't like the seven penalties but other that a good win." About Suja's shutout, "He earned it."

The Lightning JV lost a close matchup with the Cardinals 3-2. After Alex scored at 14:25 of the first, Parker Fulton tied it from Josiah Reier at 12:38. That was all the scoring until the third when Alex took the lead 2-1 at 6:39. This time it was Jack Carr that tied it for the Lightning at 4:38. The Cardinals got the game winner at 3:24 and the Lightning couldn't get the equalizer. Hunter Moreland was in net and stopped 24 shots while the Lightning posted 32 shots on goal.

The Northern Lakes Lightning lost for the first time this season Saturday, dropping a 7-3 decision on the road at Bemidji. The Lightning jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period but gave up four straight goals in the second to fall behind. The Lumberjacks scored three more times in the third to get away with the victory. Easton Anderson got the Lightning out to a 1-0 lead at 1:03 of the first, his 2nd goal of the year, with Grant Vershey getting the assist. Seven minutes later Drew Paulbeck made it 2-0 with his 5th goal of the season from Jerome Martin. Four goals in twelve minutes in the second put the Lumberjacks in front 4-2 before Paulbeck scored his second of the game and 6th of the season to cut it to 4-3 heading to the final period. The Lumberjacks held the Lightning scoreless in the third while scoring three times. Northern Lakes was called for five penalties for 21 minutes while Bemidji had 2 for 4 minutes. Sam Suja was in net for Northern Lakes and stopped 32 shots while Tate Metcalf stopped 20 shots for Bemidji.

The Lightning JV picked up another win Saturday as they beat Bemidji 6-2. Northern Lakes jumped out to a 6-2 lead before the Lumberjacks got the final two goals of the game. Hunter Moreland was in goal for the Lightning and had 19 saves while his teammates had 34 shots on net. Landen Cartie got the Lightning off to a good start scoring at 14:53 of the first. Waylon Katterhagen got the assist. Three minutes later it was 2-0 after a goal by Jaden Marthaler with Derek Berg and Sutton Sullivan getting the assists. Three more minutes passed before Kyler Rikala lit the lamp from Griffen Hannah and Cartie. Garrett Furry polished off the first period with a goal from Sullivan and Bodie Nybakken. Katterhagen scored in the second from Cartie and Sullivan scored in the third from Furry to complete the offensive night for the Lightning.
