Former Gobbler Chris Gerber hosted a 12-team bowling tournament today called Marcie's Strike Out Alzheimer's-4 person Baker Team Bowling Shoot-Out at The Phoenix Center in Richland, Wisconsin. It was an event to raise money to fight this dreaded disease that took the life of his mother, Marcia Dalberg Gilbank recently. Marcia was a longtime Aitkin resident and bowler at Aitkin Lanes before moving to Wisconsin. The event raised over $4,500 dollars for Alzheimer's research. First place went to the LR Young Bucks' Great job Chris and I know your mom was looking down and is so proud of you!

The Aitkin Special Olympics bowling team was in Duluth at Incline Station for the 2024 State Bowling Tournament and they did well. Three bowlers captured State titles including Annie Canfield, Aaron Hermans and Sam Rassier. Six bowlers were runner-up. Emily Bellah, Jeff Bourget, Brady Catlin, Allison Fairchild, Katie Fischer and Russ Gilbertson all finished second. Five more rollers were third including Jerry DeShaw, Tammy Lane, Thomas Miller, Jaz Weston and Jesse Williams. Jodie Blackford, Heather Carlson, Chris Gallagher, Carlos Glass and Jackie Kiehm all finished fourth. Isaiah Van Heel and Kristie Laine were fifth and Kaitlyn Cook had a sixth place finish. Coach Mary Perrine Vinje talked about the event, "Bowlers are placed in competitions with bowlers from Area 5 based on gender, age and average. We are so proud of the way our bowlers conducted themselves and with their great results. They definitely represented the Aitkin area with pride. One of our mottos is "Every great bowler was once a beginner who never gave up". Emily Bellah gives the thumbs up at the tourney last week.
