


The Hibbing Bluejackets scored with just five seconds left Friday night to tie the game with Northern Lakes and send the game into overtime. Neither team scored in the extra session and settled for a 1-1 tie. Kambria Thompson scored in the second period, her 10th of the season, from Rayna Hopia to give the Lightning a 1-0 lead and they held it until the final seconds. Rebecca Deemer was in goal for the Lightning and stopped 25 of 26 shots.

The Northern Lakes Lightning scored twice in the second and three more in the third Tuesday night as they shutout the Prairie Centre Blue-Devils 5-0. After a scoreless first period the Lightning got the scoring going with a goal from Natalie Stueven, her 7th of the season with Kindle Thompson and Lilly Logelin getting the assists. That goal came at the 9:41 mark and the Lightning weren't finished. Logelin picked up her 4th of the year from Savannah John at 11:16 for a 2-0 lead. Rayna Hopia opened up the third period scoring with her 4th goal of the season with Kambria Thompson getting the assist at 4:22. Lila Nordby made it 4-0 at 7:56 with a goal from Avery Lonergan. John completed the scoring at 16:56 with her 6th of the year with Lonergan getting the assist. Kayla Landt stopped all 12 shots she faced to pick up the win in goal while the Lightning fired 49 shots on Blue-Devils goaltender Izzy Lee.

The Lightning JV also won as they also shutout the Blue-Devils, 3-0. Myra Nordby stopped all 6 shots she faced to pick up the win in goal.





Savannah John recorded a hat trick and Rebecca Deemer stopped 30 shots as the Northern Lakes Lightning beat the Detroit Lakes Lakers on the road Saturday 4-1. John scored the only goal of the first period at 5:19 from Brielle Spaeth and Lilly Logelin to get the party started. That same combination produced the first goal of the second period at :54 to make it 2-0. John completed the hat trick at 5:02 with an unassisted goal to up the score to 3-0. The Lightning made it 4-0 early in the third as Dana Balmer scored her 6th goal of the season from Calah Corbett. The Lakers got a goal later in the period to avoid the shutout. Coach Angus Laing after the win, "It was a very scrappy game and both teams wanted it so badly. We love games like that. I give our girls a lot of credit on our penalty kill, they were great at a 100% success rate. Rebecca in goal was our best penalty killer and the players fed off that immensely. Across the board we got our best effort from every player and as coaches that's all we can ask." The Lightning had 8 penalties for 16 minutes while the Lakers were whistled 3 times for 6 minutes. Natalie Stueven talked about the win, "We had a great game against D.L. and I feel we were really connecting. With the long break I was nervous, but we came out strong. It was a nice win."

The Lightning JV also got a win with Myra Nordby throwing the shutout in a 3-0 win. Avery Lonergan got the Lightning going with a goal in the first from Lila John. They took that lead into the third period when they got goals from Anya Vertnik at 2:11 from Averie Drill, and Kindle Thompson at 7:45 from John and Gwenna Wannebo. Nordby stopped all 15 shots she faced while her teammates put 20 shots on goal in the game.

The Northern Lakes Lightning girls were shutout Tuesday, losing to Rock Ridge 9-0. The Lightning gave up 38 shots on goal in the loss with Rebecca Deemer and Kayla Landt both spending time in the net.

The Lightning JV also lost by the score of 5-1. Averie Drill had the only goal for Northern Lakes and Myra Nordby took the loss in the net.




The Northern Lakes Lightning girls put the hurt on visiting Prairie Centre Tuesday night scoring a 13-0 shutout. Kambria Thompson scored four goals in the assault on the net, giving her 13 goals on the season. Anya Vertnik opened the scoring at 15:04 of the first with Rayna Hopia and Averie Lonergan getting the assists. Thompson scored at 2:37 from Karlene Haff and again at 1:40 from Lilly Logelin and Lila Nordby. The second period resulted in seven goals for the Lightning. Mya Reuper scored her 2nd of the season at 16:18 from Natalie Stueven and Thompson. Logelin scored her 3rd of the season from Eva Anderson and Nordby, then at 10:56 Thompson scored again, this time from Hopia and Reuper. Dana Balmer netted her 5th of the year from Anderson at 10:31 and thirteen seconds later it was Nordby with her 2nd from Anderson and the rout was on. Reuper scored from Nordby and Thompson and Vertnik scored her second of the game and 3rd of the season from Anderson before the period ended. Three more goals in the third saw Thompson score from Jenna Udean and Leah Doughty, Stueven with her 6th from Anderson and Lonergan and finally it was Calah Corbett with her first of the year with the assists going to Haff and Udean. Rebecca Deemer picked up the win in goal.

The Lightning JV also shutout P.C. 13-0. Six goals in the first period started the rout as the Lightning got two goals from Brooklyn Raisch and got goals from Leah Doughty, Kindle Thompson, Lila Nordby and Jenna Udean. Three goals in the second period came from Doughty, Thompson and Calah Corbett. Four goals in the third came from Thompson who scored three times and Doughty who completed the scoring for the game. Myra Nordby was in goal for the Lightning.

The Thief River Falls Prowlers defeated the Northern Lakes Lightning 5-1 in a Saturday matinee in Walker. The Prowlers led 4-0 in the second period before Kambria Thompson scored her 9th goal of the season to avoid the shutout. Rayna Hopia had the lone assist on the goal. Rebecca Deemer was in goal and had 38 saves while the Lightning had just 8 shots on goal.

Rebecca Deemer threw a shutout at Princeton-Becker-Big Lake Tuesday as the Northern Lakes Lightning scored a 5-0 win, upping their record to 3-6-1. Lilly Logelin opened the scoring at 15:23 of the first assisted by Savannah John and Brielle Spaeth. Ten minutes later Logelin scored again and once again was assisted by John and Spaeth. John got a goal of her own at 9:40 of the second with Logelin and Natalie Stueven getting the assists and Rayna Hopia scored at 1:18 from Kambria Thompson and Myah Reuper to make it 4-0. Hopia scored at 1:47 of the third to finish the scoring for the game. Rebecca Deemer was in goal and picked up the shutout.

The Lightning JV also posted a win, 5-1. They took a 2-0 lead in the first and rolled to the win. Gwenna Wannebo scored from Kindle Thompson and Lila John and then Lila Nordby scored unassisted for the 2-0 edge. In the second Shaylee Swenson scored from Natalie Honzalek for a 3-0 lead before PBB got their first goal. Cassondra Smythe ripped the net for a 4-1 lead, assisted by Leah Doughty and Dana Balmer scored in the third from Averie Drill to complete the scoring.

The Northern Lakes Lightning lost a tough one on the road Friday, dropping a 4-1 contest at Pine City. The Dragons broke open a 1-1 tie with a pair of goals in the second period and another in the third to get the victory. Brielle Spaeth gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead at 6:46 of the first with Savannah John getting the assist but the Dragons tied it at 16:23 on a goal by Myra Roubinek. Ella Schlichting and Amelia Sauter each scored in the second and Tailah Peterson got the final goal for the Dragons at 8:57 of the third. The Lightning had four penalties for eight minutes while the Dragons had one for two minutes. Northern Lakes had 17 shots on goal while goaltender Rebecca Deemer stopped 21 of 25 shots on goal for the Lightning.

The Lightning JV lost a close 3-2 contest. The Lightning scored a pair of goals in the first period, but the Dragons scored the last three goals to get the win. Brielle Spaeth scored at 12:53 of the first assisted by Jenna Udean to give Northern Lakes a 1-0 lead. Shaylee Swenson scored at 10:16 with Spaeth and Averie Drill to make it 2-0 but that was the extent of the scoring for the Lightning on this night. They had 28 shots on goal while the Dragons had put 26 shots on Kayla Landt.

The Northern Lakes Lightning girls found the going very tough on the road at Fergus Falls Friday as the Otters tossed a 5-0 shutout. Rebecca Deemer had 45 saves, but the home team was even better and kept the puck out of the net all game long. The Lightning JV also lost by a score of 4-1. Karleen Haff had the only goal of the night unassisted. Coach Angus Laing, "It was not a great day for us unfortunately."

Natalie Stueven had a goal and two assists as the Northern Lakes Lightning overcame a 3-0 deficit with four goals in the second as they went on to a 6-4 win Tuesday over Detroit Lakes in a game played in Walker. It was 3-0 Lakers when Avery Lonergan scored her 2nd goal of the season to cut it to 3-1. Later in the second Dana Balmer scored her 5th of the season with Anya Vertnik getting the assist. Karlene Haff scored from Stueven and then Stueven scored from Rayna Hopia and Kambria Thompson to complete the comeback. The Lightning scored twice in the third with Thompson scoring her 6th from Stueven and Haff and Lonergan finished off the scoring with her 3rd of the season unassisted. Kayla Landt started in goal and had 16 saves and Rebecca Deemer coming in and stopping 26 shots on goal.

The Lightning JV dropped a close 3-2 matchup with Detroit Lakes. Goals for the Lightning came from Savannah John assisted by Avery Lonergan and Anya Vertvik and Shaylee Swenson assisted by Gwenna Wannebo and Cassondra Smythe. Myra Nordby stopped 7 of 10 shots in goal.

The Northern Lakes Lightning girls traveled to Hibbing Saturday and came back with a 2-2 overtime tie with the Bluejackets. The Lightning trailed 2-0 in the third but tied it up and neither team could dent the net in the extra session. Rebecca Deemer stopped 32 of 34 shots for the Lightning. Trailing 2-0 in the third Kambria Thompson scored at 2:56, her 6th of the season, to cut the lead to one then Rayna Hopia tied things with a goal at 16:56 from Avery Lonergan to send it to overtime.

The Lightning JV scored a 4-2 win over Hibbing. Myra Nordberg was outstanding in goal earning Player of the Game honors. Gwenna Wannebo, Savannah John, Avery Lonergan and Karlene Haff scored goals for the Lightning in the victory.

Natalie Stueven had two goals and three assists as the Northern Lakes Lightning scored a 7-2 win on the road at International Falls Friday night, moving their record to 2-4 on the season. Kayla Landt was solid in goal, stopping 16 pf 18 shots on the night. Savannah John opened the scoring with her first goal of the season in the first period with Stueven getting the assist. The Broncos scored their two goals for the night and took a 2-1 lead to the second. Anya Vertnik tied it at 2-2 in the second from Stueven and then Stueven scored twice in a row, first unassisted and then from Kambria Thompson. That made it 4-2 Lightning into the final period. Thompson scored twice in the third, once from Stueven and once from Rayna Hopia. In between Lila Nordby scored unassisted. Thompson scored her 50th career point in this win.
