State Cross-Country Meet


mcgregor-aitkin compete at section meet at eagle ridge

The Gobbler guys that finished their Cross-Country season Thursday at Sections were Lenny Hughes, Noah Moss, Isaac Asmus, Noah Hughes, Wyatt Winter and Andrew Hudrlik. 

Ashley Asmus, the lone Gobbler to run with the McGregor girls this fall is on the right along with her teammates Riley Jones, Kaitlyn Warner Katie Heikkala and Piper Schmidt. They finished 14th at today's Section meet.

Guida finishes 2nd, moving on to the state meet

       

      The McGregor-Aitkin Cross-Country team participated in the Section 7A Meet at Eagle Ridge Thursday with the boys finishing in 10th place and the girls in 14th place. Garrett Guida qualified for the State meet finishing 2nd in a time of 16:32.5 just six seconds behind the winner Anders Erickson of Carlton-Wrenshall. Guida talked about his race, "I was happy with the race today, my game plan was to stay close and kick it in the end, Anders is a really great runner, and I guess he had the same strategy as I did because he kicked it as well and stayed in front of me. I was a little disappointed, but we'll see what happens at State. I'm going to go all out from the start; it's my last cross-country race so might as well. I really like it that the runners from Aitkin came over, they are a great bunch, and it made our team better, I think. I like every one of them." Other finishers included Lenny Hughes in 34th, Noah Hughes in 62nd, Noah Moss in 69th, Andrew Hudrlik in 82nd, Isaac Asmus in 95th, Cole Schmidt in 108th, Wyatt Winter in 109th and Jessi Warner in 111th. On the girls side the best finish belonged to Ashley Asmus who was in 52nd place in a time of 22:17.7 just ahead of Katie Heikkala who ran the course in 22:18.3. Kaitlyn Warner was 89th, Riley Jones finished 95th and Piper Schmidt finished in 100th place.



McGregor/Aitkin C.C. runs in Proctor Invitational

    The McGregor/Aitkin Cross-Country team was in Proctor for their invitational and the boys finished 15th with the girls in 18th. Best time for the guys was Garrett Guida who finished 4th in 16:21.9. The next best finish was Lenny Hughes in 78th, Noah Moss in 96th, Andrew Hudrlik in 117th, Isaac Asmus in 124th and Wyatt Winter in 134th. For the girls it was Ashley Asmus in 59th.

Mercs boys in 4th at Polar Meet

     The McGregor/Aitkin cross-country teams were at Pincussion Mountain near Grand Marais Thursday for the Polar Conference meet. The boys finished in 4th place with Garrett Guida posting a second place with Noah Moss in 31st, Andrew Hudrlik in 37th, Isaac Asmus in 39 and Wyatt Winter in 41st. Ashley Asmus didn't run in this event nor did Noah and Lenny Hughes.

       The best finish for Aitkin in the C-I Invitational cross-country meet Thursday at Ruttgers was Lenny Hughes who finished 5th in the boys event with a time of 18:50.8 Noah Hughes was 11th in 20:07.5, Noah Moss was 17th in 20:42.4, Andrew Hudrlik was 22nd, Isaac Asmus was 23rd and Wyatt Winter was 33rd. On the girls side it was Ashley Asmus finishing 14th in a time of 23:24.2.

Lenny Hughes is happy this one is over. He finished 5th in the Invitational held at Minnesota national.

      Garrett Guida won another cross-country race Tuesday as he captured the McGregor Invitational held at Minnesota National. Guida ran the course in 17:15. The best finish for the Aitkin runners was Lenny Hughes in 5th at a time of 19:44.1. He was followed by Noah Hughes in 13th, Noah Moss in 17th, Andrew Hudrlik in 23rd, Isaac Asmus in 26th and Wyatt Winter in 33rd. For the girls Ashley Asmus finished in 3rd in 22:57.4 Team scores had the boys in 3rd and the girls in 4th for the day.

      The McGregor/Aitkin boys cross-country team finished second to Ely at the Deer River Meet Tuesday at Blueberry Hills. Meanwhile the girls finished in 4th place.

      Garrett Guida won the boys meet with a time of 16:40, nearly a minute better than the runnerup. Lenny Hughes was 3rd in 18:19.5, Noah Hughes was 15th in 19:59, Andrew Hudrlik was 26th in 21:48.8, Isaac Asmus was 27th in 21:54.5 and Wyatt Winter was 28th in 23:03 followed by Cole Schmidt in 42nd and Jessi Warner was 43rd.

      Ashley Asmus was 3rd in a time of 22:05 while Katie Heikkala was 11th in 23:12.1, Kaitlyn Warner was 18th in 24:30, Piper Schmidt was 23rd in 27:17.1 and Riley Jones finished 27th in a time of 31:18.1


Asmus, Guida lead mercs cross-country at grand rapids

      The McGregor Mercs cross-country teams were in Grand Rapids Tuesday with the boys finishing in 8th place and the girls in 10th place. Garrett Guida was 2nd in a time of 17:09.5 for the boys and Ashley Asmus led the girls, finishing in 21st with a time of 23:00.1 On the boys side four runners finished with personal records, Lenny Hughes in 28th at 19:05.2, Noah Hughes in 60th at 20:20.9, Noah Moss in 68th at 20:41.6 and Isaac Asmus in 92nd at 21:54.9. Andrew Hudrlik was 115th in 22:11.1 while Jessi Warner was 115th in 27:35.5. The rest of the girls finishers included Katie Heikkala at 23rd in 23:09.2, Kaitlyn Warner in 70th at 26:42.8 and Piper Schmidt in 90th and Riley Jones in 100th place.

Asmus 2nd, Guida 1st at Pine River-Backus

      

       The McGregor cross-country team was at Pine River-Backus Thursday and both the boys and girls teams finished in 4th place. Garrett Guida won the boys meet while Ashley Asmus was 2nd in the girls competition. Guida ran a time of 17:07.5 well ahead of the second place finisher and Asmus ran a 21:35.2, fourteen seconds out of the top spot. Other finishers in the boys meet were Lenny Hughes, 9th at 19:38.1, Noah Hughes,19th at 21:36.5, Noah Moss 24th at 22:12.5, Isaac Asmus 25th at 22:21.9 and Andrew Hudrlik at 32nd with a time of 23:01.5. Other finishers for the girls included Katie Heikkala who was 13th at 23:50.3, Kaitlyn Warner who was 19th at 26:35.2, Piper Schmidt, 25th at 29:32.2 and Riley Jones at 27th in 30:29.2.
